Central Station in Milan

After the success of Ghost Over Banksy, Pepper’s Ghost visited again Banksy’s Migrant Child in the middle of the night, in Venice, during the Biennale, noting the increasingly precarious conditions of the wall on which stands out one of only three Italian works by the most famous street artist on the planet. Is it possible that no one does anything to protect and preserve it? The part of the wall where the iconic stencil is engraved was thus the subject of a survey on the status of the work, next to which it was exposed the inscription “What you neglect becomes of someone else!“. This is how Pepper’s Ghost decides to “kidnap” the little migrant (video) for a spectacular action performed at dusk on May 19th in the square of the Central Station in Milan.

Ghost Saves Banksy – says Anderson Tegon, Founder and Art director of Pepper’s Ghost – is a statement to the world of the ability and strength of Digital Art and how we understand it as an event, an immersive exhibition, an installation or an artwork of street art.

This project starts with Ghost Over Banksy and wants to raise awareness and combine physical art and immersive art, remembering the importance of the past to be able to project towards the future. When I came back to Venice in Campo Santa Margherita, I found the Migrant Child visibly deteriorated and abandoned in what seems an inevitable sad fate.

From these considerations, was born the idea of doing something to save the famous stencil in my own way and in the style of Pepper’s Ghost. So we decided, with what is a metaphorical “theft”, to steal the soul of the artwork in order to give it to everyone because the beauty of street art, as digital street art, is to be accessible by all contaminating any place. We chose the Central Station, one of the landmarks of the city of Milan, a place of immigration, emigration and sadly even deportation during the Shoah.”
